SUMMER TEACHING ARTIST
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Summer 2026
SALARY: $24/hr
DATES: June - July 2026
OVERVIEW:
What if Puppets seeks Teaching Artists with experience working with 5-12 year olds to facilitate one-off workshops and other summer camp programming throughout Kansas City. Teaching Artists will work positively with young people to help them create puppet projects, and help to bring them to life through puppet manipulation. Paid training provided.
DUTIES:

Facilitate lesson plans and follow course objectives provided by What if Puppets

Collaborate with What if Puppets on lesson plans and programming
-
Attend onboarding and other pertinent training
-
Respond to What if Puppets communication in a timely manner
-
Create a positive culture and climate within their classroom
-
Communicate with What if Puppets in a timely manner regarding issues and/or needs in the field

Arrive at locations by designated time
-
Execute all workshops and camps as outlined in contract, unless otherwise discussed with Education Director

Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience facilitating materials-based and creative dramatic classes/workshops
-
A passion for working with 5-12 year olds
-
Collaborative spirit with a growth mindset and an openness to feedback

Strong classroom management skills

Reliable and positive communication skills
-
Access to reliable transportation as this role drives to schools within 25 miles of city center

Previous puppetry experience is a plus, but not required

Bilingual and multilingual communication skills a plus

Ability to pass a background check

Ability to lift 35 lbs
LOCATION:
25 mile radius from the Kansas City Metro Area
