About “In the Workshop” Virtual Residency:

"In The Workshop" is a social-emotional learning supplement for educators of elementary students. The program empowers educators to teach social-emotional learning through art, storytelling, and puppetry. Teachers receive the below:

 

• 8 webisodes for students (12 min each) that serve as the "hook" for each lesson.

• Standard connected arts integrated lesson plans inspired by episodes for educators

• Printable activity sheet connected to lesson plans

• Arts integration demo videos for educators

• Librarian curated reading lists

 

Teaching artists selected will facilitate 30 minute zoom lessons with multiple K-2nd classrooms. Teaching artists will train in 3 lessons created by Mesner Puppet Theater’s education director, connected to the “In the Workshop”. Lessons use creative drama to practice basic social emotional skills such as listening, focus, identifying and verbalizing emotions, and sharing. 

 

AVAILABILITY:

Must be available March, April, May of 2021 for at least 3 weekdays between 8:00-11:00 am or Noon-2:30 pm each week (availability form included in application). Must be available for at least 15 workshop slots a month (up to 50 slots a month available). Programs are booked based on the teacher schedule.

 

DUTIES:

• Prepare for lessons by attending training session and adapting lessons to class needs.

• Arrive in Zoom 10 minutes prior to the workshop to ensure there are no technical issues.

• Facilitate 30 minute SEL creative drama lessons via zoom to a variety of classroom styles (students all in person, all virtual, hybrid), K-2nd grade.

• Communicate issues or needed changes to MPT staff.

• Work with the Program Coordinator to ensure smooth scheduling and logistics.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

• 1 year of experience as a creative drama facilitator, arts based classroom teacher, or teaching artist collaborating with in school teachers.

• Understanding of youth development for K-2nd grade young people.

• Comfortable or interested in teaching virtually.

• Professional experience in puppetry, theater, or visual arts.

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree in Theatre, Arts Education, Theatre for Young Audiences, Puppetry,  or similar advanced degree OR equivalent experience.

 

PROJECT PAYMENT

• $30 per zoom session. Fee includes lesson plan review, facilitation, and any follow up required if issues occur.

• $30 per training session, 1 per month to learn lesson plans and debrief.

• Invoice with a log of sessions required for payment.

• This is a 1099 Contract position. 

 

PROJECT TIMELINE:

2nd week of March - Training lesson plan 1, and facilitation begins

April - Training lesson plan 2, and facilitations

May - Training lesson plan 3, and facilitations, final debrief
